Department of Physiology
The Department of Physiology has established close integration with related departments of physiology at leading medical universities. Agreements on international scientific and technical cooperation have been signed.
Leading lecturers of international renown are invited to deliver lectures, conduct classes with students, and lead faculty development programs.
The professors of the department themselves are participants in the academic mobility program at leading medical universities abroad and in neighboring countries.
The department includes 28 professors and lecturers.
Science
The research work at the department is conducted on two fundamental topics:
- “Development of innovative molecular technologies for diagnosing and assessing the effectiveness of treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension in preschool children.” The project received a grant from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- “General patterns and mechanisms of adaptive systemic reactions of the human body to environmental factors.”
Each year, the faculty participates in international congresses, symposiums, and scientific-practical conferences in the Republic of Kazakhstan and in various countries abroad.
As part of the grant, in 2023, Akhmetova M.Zh. successfully defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic “Regulation of contractility of the right ventricular myocardium in rats with altered serotonin concentration during the embryonic stage of ontogenesis” in the specialty “6D060700 - Biology.”
Department faculty members, PhD N.M. Kharisova, MD E.Yu. Salikhova, and Yu.I. Niyazova, within the framework of the scientific work of the international organization IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students’ Association), supervised the research project of foreign students (UNIVAS Brazil 2017-18, Turkey 2018) as part of the SCORE Research Exchange program.

Education
The faculty of the physiology department conducts the educational process in the bachelor’s programs for the specialties "General Medicine," "Medicine," "Pediatrics," "Dentistry," "Nursing," "Public Health," and "Biomedicine."
Teaching is conducted in Kazakh, Russian, and English. The educational process utilizes PBL (Problem-Based Learning).
Department staff are the authors of textbooks and educational-methodological manuals for students.
Student Scientific Circle
The Student Scientific Circle "Physiology" has existed since the founding of the department in 1950 and has had a modern educational and scientific physiology laboratory since 2010, equipped with functional devices for studying and diagnosing the main systems of the body. The organizer and permanent head of student scientific work is Professor F.A. Mindubaeva.
The scientific supervisor of the Student Scientific Circle since 2023 is Associate Professor B.T. Chergizova.
The scientific directions of student research include:
- Adaptation of the body to various environmental factors;
- Ecology and health (of students and the population).
In 2022-2023, research results were presented at international scientific conferences (12 publications), and the authors received honorable mentions and letters of gratitude. A total of 14 articles were published in RINC (Russian Science Citation Index).
Students conduct their scientific research at the educational physiology laboratory, equipped with modern medical equipment for conducting electrophysiological studies of the main systems of the body (cardiovascular, respiratory, and central nervous systems).
Two teams of students from the Student Scientific Circle, led by Professor F.A. Mindubaeva and G.K. Ryspaeva ("Amanat") and B.T. Chergizova ("Zhenis"), won prizes at the International Olympiad-2023 "Jüzden Jüyriq" in Astana in May 2023. Among more than 900 participants from medical universities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Tajikistan, the "Amanat" team received a II-degree diploma, and "Zhenis" received a III-degree diploma.
In 2023, the Student Scientific Circle of the "Physiology" department received the nomination for "Best Student Circle" of 2023 from NAO "MUK."
A group of students led by Ryspaeva G.K. achieved an honorable 2nd place among student research teams from neighboring countries at the XIV International Scientific and Practical Conference "Science and Education in the Modern World: Challenges of the 21st Century," held in December 2023 in Astana.
The top 5 members of the circle participated in December 2023 in Astana in a competition for the title of "Best Young Scientist," receiving named medals and diplomas as laureates of the competition: Syrlybaeva Zeynep, Tokbolatov Beksultan, Tolegen Sayat, Ikromova Aikerim, and Doskul Darin.
The best members of the circle participated in the IX International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists and Students "Prospects for the Development of Biology, Medicine, and Pharmacy" in Shymkent in December 2023, where 4 articles were published. Since 2012, the best students of the physiology research circle, under the guidance of Professor F.A. Mindubaeva and E.Yu. Salikhova, have annually participated in the international summer school of physiology at TGMU and in scientific research conducted in the Fan Mountains.
Professor F.A. Mindubaeva was an honored guest at the 10th Anniversary International Physiological School for Students and Faculty of Medical Universities from Central Asia, Russia, and China in Dushanbe, TGMU named after Abu Ali Ibn Sino (July 2023).
