Mission

Training of highly qualified specialists who are able to meet the needs of society in providing medical care to psychiatric patients, apply and develop advanced innovative technologies in medicine, science and practice, use the achievements of information and communication technologies, strengthen the health of the population. Specialists should be ready to adapt to the changing conditions of the healthcare system at the level of the state and the global community, continue lifelong learning, and contribute to the development of society.

What will you learn?

1st year
  • Demonstrate the skills of conducting a psychiatric examination, with the identification, description and entry into medical documentation of complaints, anamnestic information, basic psychopathological symptoms and syndromes, differential diagnosis with the presentation of a syndromic and nosological diagnosis, taking into account modern classifications, in patients with mental and behavioral disorders, including children and adolescents;
  • Demonstrate skills in the application of psychopharmacotherapy and the basics of psychotherapy in the complex treatment of mental and behavioral disorders, including in children and adolescents;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of emergency conditions in psychiatry and methods of their treatment, including in childhood and adolescence;
  • Demonstrate professional communication skills with patients, their families, as well as communication with medical staff and colleagues to optimize the therapeutic process and the process of social rehabilitation of patients with mental and behavioral disorders.
2nd year
  • Demonstrate knowledge of general and private psychiatry; apply modern approaches to therapy and social rehabilitation based on the principles of evidence-based medicine in the treatment process at the outpatient and inpatient levels; effectively use information technology in the management of medical records (work in KIIS and GIS);
  • Possess regulatory legal acts on the organization of psychiatric care in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the ethical principles of confidentiality, informed consent and business practices, including compliance with regulatory documents "Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated September 18, 2009 No. 193-IV "On the Health of the people and the healthcare system" (with amendments and additions as of 04/19/2019)";
  • Demonstrate the ability to research, analyze the information received and evaluate the results of therapeutic and rehabilitation processes, taking into account modern therapeutic strategies based on the principles of evidence-based medicine;
  • Actively participate in discussions, conferences and other forms of continuous professional development.

Final learning outcomes

  1. Possess basic concepts, skills in the organization, procedure for appointment and conduct, filling out medical documentation during forensic psychiatric, forensic narcological, military medical examination and examination of work capacity in accordance with the legal norms established in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  6. Demonstrate mastery of statistical indicators in the epidemiology of mental and behavioral disorders, including in children and adolescents.

After completing the educational program, graduates can work in public and private organizations providing: outpatient care, consultative and diagnostic care, inpatient care, inpatient replacement care, emergency medical care, air ambulance, emergency medical care, rehabilitation treatment and medical rehabilitation, palliative care and nursing care; as well as in organizations education.
