Mission

Training of competent medical oncologists (chemotherapy specialists) capable of providing high-quality, evidence-based systemic anticancer therapy, as well as diagnostic, supportive, and palliative care to patients with malignant neoplasms.

What will you learn?

1st course
  • Acquisition of theoretical and practical skills in the organization of oncology care in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Development of clinical and diagnostic skills in the assessment of oncology patients, interpretation of histology and immunohistochemistry findings, tumor staging, and evaluation of functional status.
2nd course
  • Acquisition of theoretical and practical skills in the organization of oncology care in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Development of clinical and diagnostic skills in the assessment of oncology patients, interpretation of histology and immunohistochemistry findings, tumor staging, and evaluation of functional status.

Final learning outcomes

  1. Perform a clinical assessment of the patient’s condition and a physical examination. Interpret clinical information. Integrate pathology and imaging data. Determine the disease stage and prognostic factors.
  2. Define the multidisciplinary treatment goal. Develop a drug therapy plan. Selectively order and perform appropriate diagnostic investigations.
  3. Administer the prescribed treatment. Monitor treatment efficacy and safety. Assess treatment toxicity based on clinical and laboratory findings.
  4. Provide supportive and adjunctive therapy and medical rehabilitation.
  5. Work in a team, including in a consultative role, in most clinical situations. Demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal communication. Maintain accurate, timely, and legible records/reports and electronic medical documentation.
  6. Communicate with patients and their families to explain the diagnosis, plan treatment, discuss the risks and benefits of anticancer therapy, and expected outcomes.
  7. Work with members of the treatment team, including nursing staff and diagnostic service specialists, to coordinate and deliver care. Recognize the limits of one’s own knowledge in clinical situations.
  8. Adhere to ethical principles in patient care, confidentiality, informed consent, and professional practice, including compliance with relevant laws, policies, and regulations.
  9. Carry out professional activities in accordance with the healthcare legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, ensuring patients’ rights, confidentiality of information and medical secrecy, compliance with the Code of Honor of Medical and Pharmaceutical Workers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and adherence to the established procedures for surgical interventions, blood transfusion (including blood components), and the use of invasive diagnostic methods.
  10. Analyze professional literature and assess the reliability of sources and arguments. Effectively use search engines and databases to identify relevant information. Apply the acquired data to address creative and research tasks.
  11. Improve professional skills through continuous learning, self-assessment of knowledge and experience, as well as critical appraisal and appropriate use of medical information.

Employment

After completing the educational program, graduates may work in public healthcare organizations as medical oncologists (chemotherapy specialists), in accordance with the current regulatory legal acts.
