Mission
Training highly qualified specialists capable of meeting the needs of society in providing medical care to neurological patients, applying and developing advanced innovative technologies in medicine, science, and practice, utilizing the achievements of information and communication technologies, and strengthening the health of the population. Specialists should be prepared to adapt to changing conditions in the healthcare system at the level of the state and the global community, continue education throughout their lives, and contribute to societal development.

- Determination of the level of consciousness, study of cognitive functions using the neuropsychological research method;
- Investigation of the function of cranial nerves, muscle tone, trophic, strength, reflex sphere, sensitivity, coordination of movements;
- Swallowing test screening techniques and methods;
- Determination of stroke severity by NIHSS, Rankin, Bartel scales, Rivermead mobility index, their interpretation;
- Assessment of the level of consciousness according to the Glasgow coma scales;
- Determination of diagnostic criteria for Parkinson's disease;
- Determination of diagnostic criteria for multiple sclerosis/Kurtzke scale (EDSS) McDonaldW.I. criteria;
- Determination of diagnostic criteria for myasthenia gravis (techniques and methods of protein sampling);
- Assessment of the neurological status of newborns by Hammersmith;
- Using the method of assessing general movements in children under 5 months;
- Use of tests 6 minute walking, Scott Vjuns scale, ladder climbing test, Goveres, CHOP-INTEND, HINE modified test, Hammersmith for patients with CMARULM);
- Use of the method of assessing general movements in children under 5 months;
- Technique and methodology of lumbar puncture, liquorodynamic tests;
- Interpretation of the results of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of the brain and spinal cord, cerebral angiography, electroencephalography, electrical excitability of muscles and electromyography, fundus and visual fields, ultrasound examination of brachiocephalic vessels, biochemical blood tests, ELISA and PCR, genetic research methods, lumbar puncture;
- Conducting a conversation with the patient and/or his relatives about a serious (incurable) disease (communication techniques);
- Statement of the death of the brain stem under the supervision of a curator;
- Provision of emergency neurological care for life-threatening conditions: edema and swelling of the brain syndrome, hypertensive crisis, acute cerebral circulation disorder of ischemic and hemorrhagic type, comatose states, convulsive syndrome, myasthenic crisis;
- Carrying out medical blockades.
Final Learning Outcomes:
- To know the basics of anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, modern ideas about the etiology, pathogenesis, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, classification, principles of diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases.
- Possess the skills of general medical manipulations, anamnesis collection, neurological examination of patients, isolation of clinical symptoms and syndromes, diagnosis with differential diagnosis.
- Determine the necessary examination methods for diagnosis, assess risks and choose effective diagnostic methods from the standpoint of evidence-based medicine, interpret and diagnose the results of functional research methods.
- Have the skills to diagnose and provide emergency specialized medical care for life-threatening conditions, including first aid and resuscitation for urgent neurological conditions.
- Know the principles and methods of rehabilitation for neurological diseases, determine the degree of disability and conduct an examination of temporary disability.
- To organize and carry out a set of measures for the prevention of neurological pathology, medical examination of patients, sanitary and educational work to promote a healthy lifestyle.
- Apply modern methods of treating diseases of the nervous system, according to evidence-based practice and determine their effectiveness.
Employment
Upon completion of their studies, graduates can work as neurologists (adult, child) at the district, city, regional, and republican levels in:
- healthcare organizations;
- educational organizations;
- organizations of science;
- social protection organizations.
They can also obtain the right to private practice in accordance with applicable regulations.
