Within the framework of
academic mobility, students majoring General Medicine Yeleusizova Alina,
Abilmazhinova Aiym and Yessenbaeva Gulfayrus underwent elective course
“Oncology/Hematology” in the Department of “Oncology/Hematology” and “Stem Cell Transplant” Klinikum Frankfurt (Oder),
Germany, under the direction of Doctor
of Medicine Ulrih Bitz.
KlinikumFrankfurt (Oder) is a Clinic in Frankfurt on the Oder, on the border with Poland. The clinic has more than 30 departments of different directions: therapeutic (oncology/hematology, stem cell transplantation, gastroenterology, pulmonology, nephrology, cardiology, radiotherapy), surgical (general surgery, traumatology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology), obstetric and gynecological departments (gynecology, maternity ward), psychiatric units for adults and children, diagnostic departments (radiology, endoscopy, functional diagnostics department), laboratory. In addition to patient care, the clinic provides outpatient care .

Most of the time we spent in the clinic at the Department of Oncology/Hematology and Transplantation of stem cells, but also visited several operations and we were present at were endoscopic procedures (including endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography), ophthalmology department. At the Department of Oncology/Hematology and Stem Cell Transplant we independently was performed in patients bone marrow biopsy, stem cell transplantation and also blood sampling, participated in the formulation of central catheters in the jugular vein, as well as carrying out a lumbar puncture.

Each day began with a conference and examination of patients, and then all the prescribed procedures for the day were carried out, after all the procedures we performed and filled histories Dr.U.Bitz lectured on hematology.
The atmosphere in the clinic is very nice, all the doctors are friendly, responsive and speak good English, and some even speak Russian language, so the were no problems in communication with the doctors throughout the course of training.
Elective course which we
passed was very interesting and
fruitful. It provided an opportunity to improve
the professional and communication skills, acquire new knowledge and
skills.
We thank our university and our foreign colleagues for the opportunity and we believe that participation in international programs of academic mobility is an important aspect of the development of the university and student learning.
