Infection disease: modern realities

The 5 International Meeting on Emerging Diseases and
Surveilance (IMED) was conducted from October 31 to November 3, 2014. It was organized by the
International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID). The emerging infectious diseases are at the center of world
attention now. A wide range of issues were discussed on the conference related to the risks associated with modern
epidemics, pandemics and bioterrorism. Medical, ethical and political aspects of the fight
against modern epidemics were discussed during the emotional debates.Particular concern
was expressed regarding the capacity of African countries to control the epidemic of
Ebola and the expansion of its geography.

The conference program included a large poster session,
which consisted of more than 100 reports of global issues infectology, epidemiology and antibiotic resistance.This is a global
problem and it equally applies to
both advanced and industrialized and developing countries.A head of the
Laboratory of collective use, ProfessorI.S. Azizov and PhD-candidate of third year of specialty "Medicine" Y.A. Yukhnevich participated in a poster session. The reports about epidemiology of spread spectrum
beta-lactamases in Enterobacteriaceae, mechanisms of drug resistance of
G.intestinalis and multidrug resistance of M. tuberculosis in the Republic of
Kazakhstan aroused the interest of foreign colleagues.
The prospects for the development of new
research projects in cooperation with laboratory of KSMU and foreign research
centers were considered during the discussion of these reports with foreign
colleagues. Participation of PhD candidate in conference was carried out by
financial means of a grant in connection with which I express my deep gratitude
for the assistance to the Rector of University, Professor R.S. Dosmagambetova
and the Head of the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases professor R.H.
Begaydarova.
