Master class "Innovative technologies in dental implantology ERA of PEEK"

30 October 2014

On October 23, 2014 the master class for dentists and students of dental profile in "Innovative technologies in dental implantology ERA of PEEK" was held at the department of dental surgery with the participation of Professor Frank Shpan. He deserves the credit for elaboration and clinical implementation of the method of implantation and immediate prosthetics of boneless augmentation for patients with high bone resorption. Dr. Shpan is the holder of over 100 patents in implantology, developer of the first-ever implant system a new generation based on isoelastic PEEK material.

The master class consisted of three parts. The lecture course included the theoretical part of an introduction to isoelastic material course. Medical cases and practical experience in PEEK implants insertion were discussed. The next part included the specialists training using plastic models, the introduction to materials science, training in РЕЕК PERSO B, C implants treatment regimen and also practical skills training using plastic models. The third part included an operational unit. During this unit, a patient operation with video translation was performed in the lecture room and then this medical case was discussed.

The master class is planned in three levels of specialists training:

The first level is the introduction to the isoelastic materials science, which are used in maxillofacial surgery, the training in РЕЕК PERSO С and В implants usage, patient operation demonstration.

The second level is the introduction to the dentofacial implants cource, which are used in plastic surgery of facial bones with patient operational course. The third level includes the training in dental prosthetics using implants made of PEEK material and the skills of the patients with dentofacial abnormality rehabilitation.

Each training level consistently complements each other and increases surgery difficulty level in professional qualification of maxillofacial surgery in practical skills using composite implants, which are similar in physical, chemical and mechanical properties with the facial bones.
