28 October 2014

India is a country of festivals.

From October 23 to October 28, 2014 millions of Hindus around the world celebrate one of their main national holidays - the "Festival of Lights" Diwali. Earlier Diwali was the holiday of the autumn harvest. And in the modern India it is called the New Year holiday.

Diwali is the festival of love and goals achievement. To understand the significance of Diwali, you need to have an idea about Indian legends and traditions, thanks to which this holiday sprang up. One of the legends tells that this day Rama returned to the hometown Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. All the inhabitants of the city lit the lamp with "ghee" as a sign of this joyful event, therefore the holiday was called Dipawali or Diwali that means "row of lighted lamps".

Usually Hindus celebrate Diwali very noisy and cheerful. Within five days in honor of the triumph of good over evil they light the lamps and lights, give gifts and sweets and pray to the goddess of prosperity.

The Indian students of KSMU also keep with the traditions. On October 24, 2014 festive show with participation of foreign students from India and student's university amateur teams took place in honor of Diwali holiday in the events hall.

The rector of KSMU R.S. Dosmagambetova opened the festive program with the warm congratulations. According to Indian custom, she lit the lamps and lights and even congratulated the foreign students with their national new year in Hindi.

Guests of the festival watched colorful Indian holiday concert with colorful costumes, music and songs in Hindi, Indian folk and modern dance. The atmosphere of friendliness and universal delight prevailed in the hall. The holiday left bright impressions and positive emotions both for students and for teachers.
