As part of the academic mobility, interns of 7th years of study Umertaeva Zhanna, Zhumakayev Akylbek and Esniyazov Dias, specialty "General Medicine" were directed for a practice to Hematology and Oncology department, Helios Klinikum, Bad Saarow, Germany in the period from 03.03.2014 to 28.03.2014. The main criteria for training were high academic skills and fluency in English language. Interns were assigned to the following leading doctors:

- Dr. med. Daniel Binder, Oberarzt Station B

Most of the time we were spending in the Hematology and Oncology Department, participating in clinical analysis, patient management and medical rounds. We conducted primary inspections with the clinic’s residents. The working day began at 7.00 am with a morning conference where discussed the results of all laboratory and instrumental data, clinical symptoms, additional methods of checkup and further patient management.

We were allowed to hold following manipulations at our own: bone marrow biopsy of the huckle-bone, ultrasound of abdomen, kidney, and transfusion of packed red blood cells and thrombotic material, and conducting of special neurological examinations.

Once a week were lectures on various diseases for all residents of clinic for improving qualification. Also, interns were given the opportunity to visit the pat anatomic museum with amazing unique collections drugs of Dr. Koch.

Interns were acquainted with brachytherapy in prostate cancer, as well as its methods of planning. Daily carried out an interdisciplinary consultation, where discussed the further management of hemo / oncology patients. Consultation includes leading physicians of various specialties: oncologists, mammalogiest, pulmonologists, surgeons of different directions, with the obligatory participation of radiologists who were interpreting films of complex cases of MRI, CT and X-ray.

Besides working in oncology and hematology department we had an opportunity to learn and observe the work in other departments. For example, we attended the unique operations conducted in the Radiology Department: “selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT)” carried out for the first time in Bad Saarow, Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt. Also, we were on emergency embolization of branches of the external carotid artery due to bleeding decaying head and neck tumors. It is quite natural in the radiology department the daily angiography and endovascular surgery. Also we had the opportunity to gain the skills of interpretation of different patterns of MRI and CT scans, radiographs, angiograms. We were honored not only to observe for operations, in such departments like: "General Surgery", "department of head and neck ", " traumatology ", " neurosurgery " but we were assistants of operating doctors. Interns actively were involved in examinations and consultations of Russian-speaking patients in various departments of the hospital.

We were very glad to be on one of the most interesting conference and exhibition of the latest surgical equipment Congress of German Society Surgeons that carries out once per year.

In addition to working in the clinic, we were invited to the government of city Potsdam, where we met the president of the city Gunter Fritsch, President of the Parliament , as well with the Minister of Education and Science of Germany Mrs. Professor Funk. Mrs. Elisabeth Alter invited us to visit the Parliament.

We have noted the high professionalism of doctors, profound knowledge, friendliness and openness to everything new, broad views of the problems of cancer patients, as well as special treatment to each patient.

There are all possibilities for the diagnosis and treatment of various hemo / cancer diseases in the clinic. Also there conducts unique research works in the field of chemotherapy of relevant and rare oncological diseases.
