Destinies burned by war

On October 9, 2021 in the village Kainar with the active participation of the public association "Union of veterans and disabled war veterans in Afghanistan" of Karaganda city under the leadership of Khasenov Talgat Bolatovich the opening ceremony of the memorial stele to Afghan soldier Marat Turganbaevich Kulmakhanov (sculptor - Bagramov I. M., member of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan). The event was attended by veterans of combat operations, the warrior's brother Kulmakhanov Bakhytzhan, who flew in from Bulgaria, representatives of the district administration, schoolchildren and residents of the village of Kainar.

Kulmakhanov Marat was called in the Soviet Army from the walls of his native Karaganda Medical Institute in the autumn of 1986. After training he fought in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan since May 1987 till August 16, 1988. He took part in two combat operations on liquidation of insurgent bands. On August 16, 1988, escorting a convoy near the settlement of Kunduz, the support group, in which Marat served, was ambushed. Quickly having orientated himself in a difficult situation, he skillfully organized the repulse of the attack, and then led the fight to the approach of help, during the battle was seriously wounded, on the way to the hospital he died. He almost did not live to see his 20th birthday ...

In the beginning of 90th years by forces and means of fellow students in village Kaynar (former Shcherbakovskoe) of Nurinsk region of Karaganda area, with which Marat together with building team of Karaganda medical institute helped the local population, the monument to Marat was established. Nygimetov S.A., director of Kainar LLP, rendered great material assistance in this.

T. Hasenov noted, that about two thousand soldiers from Karaganda went through trails of war in Afghanistan, 75 of them returned home in zinc coffins. By decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, he was awarded the Order of the Red Star, a medal "For Valor" in July 1988, and the Order of the Red Banner in February 1989 (posthumously).

"We share the pain of loss of those who lost their loved ones in combat operations and peacekeeping missions. We honor the memory of those whose lives were cut short far from their homeland," he said.
