On-line seminars of the professor from the New Zealand

23 September 2020

COVID-19 pandemic have entered a lot of correction to our life and traditional training of the students of the Karaganda medical university at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Evidence-Based Medicine is carried out remotely. Namely, we are talking about classes of students with David Woods, who is a clinical pharmacist, representative of the Evidence-Based Network in New Zealand, editorial director of the Formulary and Formulary for children of New Zealand, Professor of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Auckland (New Zealand).

In this year, the training program is designed for the second-year students of the foreign department and teleconference Kazakhstan-New Zealand-India launched successfully. From the September 14 to 25, 2020, on-line training for the foreign students who are in India is carried out with the help of the platforms Webex and Moodle. And, thanks to distance learning technologies, a professor, being thousands of kilometers away, can share knowledge and experience with future clinicians on the optimization of drug provision,  nuances of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of essential drugs, consider the use of drugs in special groups of patients - pregnant women, the elderly, and persons with concomitant diseases. A special emphasis of the classroom is placed on the practical component, active forms of learning are used - CBL, students are also given assignments for independent implementation in offline mode, followed by assessment and feedback by D. Woods.

It is to be noted that cooperation with the professor within the framework of academic mobility has been carried out for three years, previously he also conducted master classes on topical issues of evidence-based medicine and clinical pharmacology for residents, interns, took part in the IV Central Asian Scientific and Practical Conference on Medical education "Internationalization of medical education".

We are looking forward to further continuation and strengthening of cooperation with Professor D. Woods in training specialists with a high level of competence in rational pharmacotherapy, despite the complex and unstable epidemiological situation in the country and the world as a whole.

Yukhnevich E.A. PhD, Associated Professor, Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Evidence-Based Medicine
