World Diabetes Day was celebrated by teachers and students of the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry at a thematic seminar. Students not also have prepared reports and presentations about diabetes, but also addressed these reports to patients, whose role has been also played by the students. The task was interesting , they have to present information so that it is accessible, interesting and promotes adherence to treatment and prevention of a serious illness.Speakers spoke about the etiology, pathogenesis, risk factors, diet and a healthy lifestyle that can prevent the development of diabetes. Student groups prepared booklets on diabetes, which will be available to patients at the clinic of the Medical University of Karaganda next week.

A clinical case was presented, which drew the attention of students to the psychosocial aspects of diabetes in the patient’s family; the seminar participants chose the most effective ways to solve the patient’s problem.At the end of the seminar, the situation of teaching a patient how to use a real glucometer was presented, and one of the students was forced to work with the so-called “difficult patient” - an elderly grandmother who had poor memory of instructions, was naughty, but the future doctor Ruslan Vatanovich Ibragimov (group 5-033 of the School of Medicine ) “excellent” coped with the task, showing emotional stability and patience in teaching the patient.

Teachers of the Department of Medical Psychology were pleased with the result of the seminar - the formation of the principles of a patient-centered approach and the development of clinical communication skills in a simulated patient model for students.
