On April 25-27, 2019 the International Student
Scientific Conference called «HEALTH. SCIENCE. TECHNOLOGY» was held at the Medical
University of Karaganda, where the 2nd year students of the “General Medicine” specialty
Pozdnyakov Pavel and Boranbayev Aday reported on the results of their
scientific work “The effect of soft drinks on the urine composition of
students”. The work was carried out at the Biochemistry Department under the
leadership of the associated professor Burdelnaya Y.V. and assistant professor
Klochkova Y.V. The test students, assigned to different groups, were using one

The
results of the biochemical study of the urine, which were carried out before
and after the experiment, showed that as a result of the weekly intake of
energetic and cola in the urine of healthy students some substances appeared
that were absent before the study such as protein, glucose, ketone bodies,
urobilinogen and oxalates were also found as well as pH of urine has decreased.
According to the obtained data, the students made a conclusion about the
negative impact of these beverages on human metabolism. The work caused great
interest during the discussion many questions were asked. As a result, the
authors of the work were awarded Diplomas of 3 degrees. This is a great start
for student research.
