English – underagrant

14 May 2019

The Karaganda Medical University has won the competition of the Shakhmardan Yessenov Science and Education foundation for learning English from native speakers during two years.

Our university was among the four selected applicants out of 16. At the end of April 2019, the foundation's commission paid visits to the selected universities, resulting in victory of the KMU. The commission was taken to a tour at the university, organized by representatives of the KMU administration, research school, department of strategic development, human resources, international cooperation, trinity of languages, student service center and library. During the tour, the commission assessed the university equipment, openness and willingness of the staff to organize English language courses.

The grant covers teaching English for 160 people: 90 students, 45 teachers, and 25 master and PhD students. Native speaking teachers of the Bonas Macfarlane Education language center will conduct the courses. Two groups - General English for students and English for Special Purposes for teachers – will have classes twice a week (90 minutes each) during 8 months from October 2019 to May 2021.

At the end of the second year, 20 teachers and 15 students with the best indicators of attendance, involvement (homework) and test progress (initial, intermediate and final) will have an opportunity to take an IELTS test at the expense of the Shakhmardan Yessenov foundation.

The teachers will select participants and form groups in September 2019. The detailed information on the participants’ selection will be posted later.
