Academic Mobility at Vilnius University

15 January 2019

We, the 4th year students of the "General Medicine" specialty Knayatova Sagynysh and Myrzakhmetova Kamila, within the framework of the academic mobility program, passed the cycles "Surgery" and "Obstetrics and Gynecology" from August 30 to December 28, 2018 in one of the most prestigious and historical universities in Europe and Lithuania, Vilnius University. Vilnius University was founded in 1579. The university is interdisciplinary, with 12 faculties, 7 institutes with faculty rights, 4 inter-faculty educational and scientific centers and one of the oldest libraries in Lithuania, a botanical garden, a university museum and other non-academic departments.

Integration into a new society and education thanks to the organized “Orientation week” was not a problem for us. In the introductory week we got acquainted with the culture of Lithuania, which is very different from ours, and had the opportunity to meet the students from different parts of the world. At the beginning of the education, we realized that the education system is different from ours. During the lesson, the focus was on practical work, communication with the patients, observation of the surgeries, discussions between the teacher and students which help to form students' clinical thinking. These opportunities will be invaluable for us in the future.

Our educational process took place with students of 4-6 courses in order to fully cover all topics at different levels, according to the compiled individual schedule. Education in an international group was conducted in English. We are responsible for the status of our university and we hope that we have shown all our knowledge and aspirations in order to meet its expectations. The fact of awareness of the huge responsibility, as representatives of a young and developing country Kazakhstan on the world stage, served as a motivational impetus for improving the quality of knowledge and improving communication skills.

For the opportunity and support, we express our deep gratitude to the rector of KSMU, Professor R. S. Dosmagambetova, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development, Science and International Cooperation, Professor A. A. Turmukhambetova and the Department of International Cooperation. Special thanks to the international department of the University of Vilnius, Lithuania.

Sincerely, students of 4-001 GM group Sagynysh Knayatova and Kamila Myrzakhmetova
