Theme of the seminar “Improving care and support services for young people living with HIV”

On the basis of Karaganda State Medical University with the support of UNICEF, from October 1 to October 3, a seminar was held on the theme: “Improving care and support services for young people living with HIV” for infectious disease doctors, psychologists, social workers from North Kazakhstan, Akmola, East Kazakhstan , Pavlodar regions, Astana, university professors and representatives of non-governmental organizations.

 Kanat Sukhanberdiev, a national consultant to UNICEF, noted the relevance of the problem of HIV infection for the Republic of Kazakhstan, introduced students to the training program, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, introduced CHIVA trainer Magda Conway (United Kingdom).

Magda Conway provided an overview of research on the attitude of society to HIV infection and to people living with HIV (PLHIV), conducted training sessions on working with families where there are children with HIV infection, to what extent parents are informed by HIV, do they agree to open their status children. Special attention was paid to strict adherence to the treatment of children with antiretroviral therapy and medication. No less interesting were the topics of how to talk with young people about sex, how to overcome the stigma of discrimination.

Young people of PLHIV were invited to the training.

 In the process of learning colleagues exchanged views, shared their experiences. The training ended with not only the acquisition of theoretical, practical knowledge, but also a transfer case for application.
