Visit of the Professor of the University of Otago (New Zealand) in framework of the academic mobility

On the September 10, 2018, arrivedto KSMU clinical pharmacist, a representative of the Evidence-Based Network in New Zealand, editorial Director of Formulary and New Zealand Formulary for children in New Zealand, Professor of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Otago (New Zealand) David Woods. Professor will give lectures for residency students of all specialties at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Evidence Based Medicine until September 21.

David Woods is also a clinical Advisor of the Kazakhstan National Formulary, a Member of International working group on the clinical development of SNOMED CT for drug allergy checking and clinical decision support, a Member of the Medical Safety Advisory Group (MSEAG) of the Health Quality and Safety Commission of New Zealand, Collaborative researcher of University of Ceara, Chair of Compounding Working Group.

Professional areas of research of Professor D. Woods are: drug allergy, drug groupings for clinical decision support and pharmacovigilance, population based medicines research, pediatric medicine formulation

Professor D. Woods is actively cooperating with the Association of Clinical Pharmacologists of Kazakhstan, participates in organization and holding International Scientific-Practical Conference on clinical pharmacology and pharmacy (Almaty, 2016, Aktobe, 2017, Astana, 2017.).

It is worthwhile noting that it is not the first visit of the Professor to KSMU, he visited KSMU in October 2017, at that time Professor gave a master-class on actual issues on evidence based medicine, also he participated at the IV Central Asian Scientific and Practical Conference on Medical Education “Internationalization of medical education”, which was hold on October 2-3, 2017 at KSMU.

Programme of the lectures of the Professor include the next themes«Adverse Drug Events and Adverse Drug Reactions, Including medication errors.Monitoring and Pharmacovigilance», «Medicines Use in the elderly population and polypharmacy», Medicines Use in Children, Pregnancy and Lactation», «Dosing in renal and hepatic disease», «Assessment of the use of medicines in clinics and hospitals/Drug Utilisation Review», etc.

In framework of the visit of the Professor, it was signed a Letter of Intent between KSMU and School of Pharmacy of the Otago University for continuing and strengthening the cooperation in the spheres of joint researches, academic exchange of the professors and students, etc.

On September 12, 2018, took place a meeting of the Professor with the Deputy in Charge for Strategic Development, Science and International Cooperation of KSMU Mrs. A.A. Turmukhambetova. During the visit, discussed the issues of development of the teaching of the students of KSMU, project "Assuring Safe and Effective Medicines Use in Kazakhstan", etc.
