VISIT TO TASHKENT PEDIATRIC MEDICAL INSTITUTE WITHIN ACADEMIC MOBILITY PROGRAM

23 May 2018

Assistant of the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases,  Karaganda State Medical University G.E. Nassakayeva visited the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases of Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute from 30 April to 9 May, 2018 within the academic mobility program.

The main base of the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases is located at the Tashkent Infection Hospital No. 5. The additional department is located at the Children Infection Hospital No. 4 and Infection Hospital No. 1. The educational work at the department is carried out in the following areas: early diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis; early diagnosis and treatment of acute intestinal infections of bacterial and viral etiology; early diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases with exanthema syndrome. Head of the department is M.D., Professor B.M. Tadzhiev.

The department provides training of students of 5th, 6th and 7th year of the Pediatric Faculty.  The educational process was carried out in 3 languages: Uzbek, Russian and English

The department demonstrated the structure, documentation and methods of work in 5 clinical bases of infectious diseases hospitals.

Assistant G.E. Nassakayeva familiarized us with the documentation and rules of its maintenance at the department like a calendar-thematic plan, interactive teaching methods, educational journals, etc.

In the framework of the academic mobility program, I conducted training of students for a two credits (54 hours) period, which included: lectures (4 hours), practical classes (33 hours), student independent work under teacher control (17 hours). The staff of the Department created all conditions for productive work.

In order to improve the quality of education and exchange of experience teachers of KSMU organized lectures in the form of presentations on topics such as “Diseases proceeding with a syndrome of tonsillitis”, “Diseases proceeding with a syndrome of rash”, “Diseases proceeding with a syndrome of diarrhea”, “Nosocomial infection” and conducted the practical classes using the active teaching methods: team-based learning (TBL), case-basedlearning (CBL).

The result of the conducted classes was the positive feedback from the students. In their opinion, the active teaching methods lead to understanding, assimilation and consolidation of educational material. Moreover, TBL and CBL besides solving of clinical problem develop communicative skills such as teamwork, mutual understanding by using obtained theoretical knowledge, as well as lecture material.

Academic mobility allows improving the quality of education, personal growth, pedagogical skills and increasing the cooperation between universities.

I express great appreciation to Rector, M.D., Professor B.T. Daminov, staff of the Department of International Relations and Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases: Head of Department, M.D., Professor B.M. Tadzhiev, associate professors and assistants, for the warm welcome and full support during my stay in Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute.

G.E. Nassakayeva, Assistant of Pediatric Infectious Diseases
