Participation of KSMU team in the III International Practical Olympiad in the city of Kursk

14 March 2018

On March 2-3, 2018, the 3rd International Practical Olympiad took place at the Kursk State Medical University. The KSMU team was represented by fifth year students: Pak Elina and Toleubaeva Ardak (group 5-075), Em Sabina and Em Maksim (group 5-085).

This project started in 2014 with the idea to conduct a large simulation, in which senior students of medical specialties would play the role of rescuers, and the younger ones - victims of a large catastrophe. To attract students to the project, first aid courses were founded with an emphasis on clinical picture of acute conditions. In the 2015-2016 academic year, the project developed to a modern concept. A fundamental concept was adopted – to conduct Olympiad, which would encourage team spirit, vivid and non-standard thinking, mastering a wide range of practical skills. Every year the number of participants is growing.

This year 34 teams from different cities of Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan took part in the Olympiad.

The staff of the departments "Ambulance" and "General Doctor’s Practice No. 2", coaches of the Center for Practical Skills, medical staff of the branch of the State Institution "Center for Disaster Medicine" of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the Karaganda region took an active part in the preparation of our team.

The Olympiad was held for 2 days. On the first day, the main competitive program was held (training in the hospital, training in the emergency zone, polyclinic reception, nursing skills, the work of ambulance team).

According to the results of the first day, 10 out of 34 teams entered the final, including our students.

The second day is a mass training. In the mass stage, all the teams took part. Teams that scored maximum number of points on the first day acted as rescuers, and less fortunate in the role of victims in the emergency zone.

At the end of the Olympiad, our team took the 4th place and received a diploma in nomination "Medical aid in the emergency zone".

Our students won in a competitive struggle, they had to compete with interns-anaesthesiologists, who participated more than once in such competitions, but our guys showed that they are able to compete at the highest level with representatives of leading universities.

The Olympiad weas held in a friendly and warm atmosphere.

The winners were awarded by the head of the department "Anesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive care" of the Kursk State Medical University, Doctor of Economics, Professor S.A. Sumin.

The team of KSMU students with the active support of the management and professor-teaching staff of our university, continues to aim to regularly participate and win in international and republican competitions for emergency medical care.
