Participation of KSMU in the international conference "Internationalisation of higher education" in Tongji University (Shanghai, China) within the framework of the Erasmus + "WELCOME: Towards Incoming International University Communities" project

From the 9th of December to 10th of December 2017 the international conference "Internationalisation of higher education" was held in the framework of Erasmus + "WELCOME: Towards Incoming International University Communities" project. There were representatives from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain), Tallinn Technical University (Estonia), Lisbon University (Portugal), University  of Rovira and Virhiliy (Spain), University of Perpignan – Via Domitia (France), L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Kazakhstan), Narxoz University (Kazakhstan), Kazakh University of Economics, Finance and International Trade (Kazakhstan), Beihang University (China), Tongji University (China), etc. among the participants of the conference.

The plenary sessions was opened with a welcoming speech of the Vice-Rector of Tongji University Professor Wu Guangming, coordinator of Erasmus+ WELCOME project of Tongji University Yu Jean and project coordinator of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia Vicenc Fernandez.

Participants of the plenary sessions presented their reports on the following topics:

- "Internationalisation of higher education in Kazakhstan: a brief overview of achievements" (S. B. Kasymova, Karaganda State Medical University);

- "Erasmus+ Project: SUCTI (Systemic university changes towards internationalisation” (Maura Lerga, University of Rovira and Virhiliy);

- "Internationalization at Tallinn Technology University" (Madli Krispin, Tallinn Technology University);

- "Internationalisation at home and abroad in the context of student-centred policy of Kazakhstan universities" (Sh. Imangaliyeva, University of Narxoz), etc.

In addition, during the conference three roundtables with discussions were held:

- Online tools and resources. How evaluate the internationalisation of universities?

- Designing the future of students support centers focused on internationalisation

- How to train staff and faculty to achieve the highest level in university internationalisation?

Also on the 8th and 11th of December there were meetings of work of the WELCOME project, where issues of financial management project, creation of a website, dissemination strategy, quality strategy and sustainability strategy were discussed.

Also, the staff of KSMU visited the Department of International Cooperation of Tongji University and International Office of the Medical School. During the meeting negotiations were held on the possibility of signing a bilateral agreement with the aim of organizing academic mobility programs and joint research activities.
