The World Diabetes Day is
celebrated annually on November 14, which was established by the International
Diabetes Federation along with the World Health Organization in 1991 in
response to concerns of increasing incidence of diabetes in the world. Canadian
physician and physiologist Frederick Bunting was born on this day, who was awarded
the Nobel Prize, in medicine for the insulin discovery along with John MacLeod
and Charles Best. World Diabetes Day is celebrated under the auspices of the
United Nations since 2007.
On November 14, 2017 Department of Internal Disease Medicine No 2 and intern therapeutists of the 7-037, 7-047, 7054, 7060 groups organized and conducted the screening test in honor of World Diabetes Day in the Medical Center of KSMU. More than 80 people participated in this screening test. During the test, capillary blood glucose and cholesterol level of each participant were measured by the express method, participants of the action also answered the 10-year risk of diabetes estimating FINDRISC questionnaire. As a result, people with increased risk of diabetes were identified. Participants received recommendations on the modification of lifestyle, nutrition and another action to prevent the possibility of diabetes mellitus type 2.
