On October 4-8there was held I Republican chess tournament in Astana among the universities of RK for the cup of international grandmaster Dinara Saduakasova.

 The organizer of the competition is the Kazakhstan Chess Federation with the support from the Ministry of Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The main purpose of the tournament is the chess development and promotion in Kazakhstan.

18 strongest student teams from Almaty, Astana, Aktobe, Shymkent and other regions fought for the Grandmaster’s Cup. The prize fund of the tournament made an impressive amount - 1 200 000 tenge. Karaganda region was represented by the students of KSMU: Sarsembay Ablaykhan (5-075 GM), Yesenbekov Magzhan (2-022 GM) and Abil Aray (7-026 GM).

During the three days, our students along with chess players from other universities of Kazakhstan fought for the right to become the owner of the prestigious cup. Participants demonstrated their full potential: multi-pass combinations, powerful attack, thoughtful defense and counter-attacks.

As a result of hard fight, the winner of the I Republican Chess Tournament was the team of KazNU named after Al-Farabi (Almaty), the second place was taken by the team of ENU named after Gumilev (Astana), and the team of KSMU closed the top three winners.

The winners and prize-winners of the competitions were awarded by Kazakhstan’s leading chess player, 4-time World Champion, 2-time Asian Champion, International Grandmaster  Dinara Saduakasova.
