Within the program of the academic mobility professor George Karakiulakis, Head of the Department of Pharmacology of the School of Medicine and Dean of the School of Health Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) participated as academic teaching staff in the lectures of the Department of General Pharmacology, during the period 22.09 – 29.09. 2017 .

During his stay, he conducted a series of lectures in English to students of the 3 year courses in "General Medicine” specialty.

Lectures were given at the high professional level taking into account current issues of pharmacology development.

Subjects of lectures have a direct connection with practice which are relevant today.

The material presented corresponded to novel scientific principles with clarity and sufficient explanations for the perception of the students. Material was stated consistently, in logically sustained form and there was connection between theoretical and clinical disciplines.

The lecture included basic principals in pharmacokinetics and their use in personalized medicine, aspects of the methods and measurements in pharmacology, the development of new drugs. A subject that attracted the interest of the students was on “The pitfalls of Life style Drugs”.

There was an effective feedback of students after each lecture and the professor gave a chance to students to express their opinion on the lecture.

Students unanimously expressed their opinion that lectures of such a format need to be given more often as it broadens horizons, allows to go beyond habitual theoretical material.

Students were interested in the content of lectures and comments of the professor

The staff of the Department of General Pharmacology has acquainted professor George Karakiulakis with features of teaching at the Karaganda State Medical University. The professor was particularly impressed with the infrastructure and equipment and the training offered to medical students at KSMU through the Clinical Skills Laboratories and modules.

The professor, in turn, presented the format of the students’ training that is followed at the School of Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and the possibilities offered for students’ exchange.

Academic mobility is undoubtedly important and necessary for the creation of new opportunities of the effective interaction.

It gives an opportunity to improve quality of teaching, to increase pedagogical skills and opens new horizons of effective educational and scientific cooperation.
