On 26 – 27 April 2017 in Almaty was held the III Congress of Family Physicians of Kazakhstan with the participation of foreign guests, such as Dr. Vijay Kumar, Chairman of the Royal College of General Practitioners of Yorkshire County, President of the Royal College of Primary Care Physicians of Great Britain; Dr. Juan Tello, representative of the WHO European Center for Primary Health Care; Dr. Kyle Hodebeke, spokesman of the Polaris of American Academy of Family Physicians, Editor of American Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care, Medical Director of Yongsan Health Clinic (Seoul, Korea), as well as scientists, practitioners from the Russian Federation, the Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan.

The Congress was opened with a welcome video message by WONCA WORLD President Amanda Howe and President of Association of Family Doctors of Kazakhstan, M.D., Professor NugmanovаDamilа.

In the panel discussions were considered the issues of increasing the role of professional public organizations in implementation of the State Health Development Program “Densaulyk” for 2016-2019 and enhancing the role of general practitioners in financing the health care, the advantages of specialty of a family doctor / general practitioner.

Also there was conducted work in clinical sections, where were discussed the problems of diagnosis and treatment of common diseases in the practice of the family physician / PHC organizations, the evidence base of dual antiplatelet therapy, irritable bowel syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, functional dyspepsia, GERD, AH, reasonable approaches to treatment of COPD and bronchial asthma and adherence to patients with treatment.

Head of Department of General Medical Practice No. 3, nursing care with a course of neurosurgery, M.D., Professor Alikhanova Karlygash and Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Omarkulov Bauyrzhan moderated in the educational section “Training of GP / family doctor at the undergraduate level and residency. International experience, countries of Central Asia and CIS”. There were discussed the issues of experience in development of training programs on general medical practice in Kyrgyzstan, innovative teaching methods in training of general practitioners in KSMU, teacher competences in family medicine.

For contribution to the development of general medical practice, family medicine in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Head of Department of General Medical Practice No. 3, nursing care with a course of neurosurgery of KSMU, M.D., Professor Alikhanova Karlygash was awarded the honorary diploma of the Association of Family Doctors of Kazakhstan.
