ORPHEUS (Organization for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System) is an association of European biomedical and medical faculties and institutions. ORPHEUS is a network of higher education institutions of more than 30 countries, involved in developing and disseminating the best practice within PhD training programs. ORPHEUS is committed to safeguarding the reputation of the PhD as a research degree and strengthening the career opportunities for PhD graduates. ORPHEUS-12 conference involved the famous international experts and speakers for conducting seminars, holding discussions and debates on the interdisciplinary approach to modern PhD training in biomedicine.

The scientific program was focused on the themes:

1. Challenges and specific issues in multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research.

2. Bioethics in PhD training. Breach of ethics. The enhancement of reproducibility of research findings through increased scientific rigor and transparency. Specific ethics in experimental or human work.

3. National and international approaches to improvement of PhD training. Best practices.

4. Development of relevant competences during PhD training. Career development.

5. Monitoring and assessment of doctoral training.


Head of Department of Biological Chemistry, Professor Larissa Muravleyova and acting Professor of Department of Biological Chemistry Neila Tankibayeva took part in the 12th conference of ORPHEUS. They presented the poster and oral reports on the topic “Approaches to development of multidisciplinary doctoral training programs in Karaganda State Medical University”. The topic aroused interest and led to the active discussion.
