Periodic Medical Examinations in Penal Correction System
At
present, one of the priority directions in Kazakhstan is the prevention and
timely treatment of socially significant diseases in various population groups,
including persons serving sentences, handed down by a court, in places of
detention. The health protection of convicts is one of the most important tasks
of the administration of penal institutions and the entire penal correction
system (hereinafter – PCS).
The purpose of the periodic medical examinations in the PCS is the timely identification of convicts predisposed to development of chronic diseases, at risk, which allows therapeutic and preventive measures at an earlier time.
In the framework of the intersectoral interactions, in the case of lack of possibility to provide the quality medical care in a facility, a department of medical support of prisoners of the Department of PCS of Karaganda region considers it necessary to involve the specialized medical staffing from the civil sector of healthcare.
In this regard, the department of medical support, under the leadership of Colonel of Justice L.I. Gorokhova, requested the assistance of the administration of Karaganda State Medical University in conduction of spring preventive examination of convicts.
In the period from 13.03.2017 till 31.03.2017 to the PCS was sent a multi-profile team of residency students: therapist, cardiologist, surgeon, neurosurgeon, neurologist, endocrinologist, doctor of radiodiagnosis, ophthalmologist, urologist and gynecologist. In the PCS, the students were provided with the modern medical equipment and a wide range of medicines. In the course of conducting the medical examinations, the residency students consolidated the professional skills acquired during the training, and used the communication skills. The trainees noted the friendly attitude of the employees of PCS and theconvicts.
