Nauryz meiramy is a holiday of spring renovation in Kazakhstan. According to the oriental calendar, Nauryz is the beginning of a new year, and coincides with the spring equinox. This holiday is a symbol of spring renewal, triumph of love, fertility and friendship for Kazakh people. In the old days, prior to the beginning of Nauryz people brought their houses and farms in order, and planted trees, flowers in honor of the holiday. “Nauryz” means “birth of spring”. This is the most important and ancient festival of Oriental peoples. Strictly speaking, this is the New Year according to the ancient Eastern calendar. It also has another name, Ulys Kuny (“The First Day of the New Year”) or Ulystyn Uly Kuny (“The Great Day of the People”). It is considered that the generous celebration of Nauryz brings abundance and success to the house for the whole year.

On 16 March at the Department of Pathological Anatomy and Forensic Medicine was held a celebration of Nauryz meiramy. This celebration is a long-standing tradition of the department. This year the staff reproduced the full interior of a traditional Kazakh yurt named after Al-Farabi. The yurt was decorated in the Khan style based on the principle of a single scenic space, augmented by various installations associated with Nauryz. The guests of the yurt were greeted at the entrance by the people wearing national costumes, and to the guests was also shown a rich entertainment program prepared by the staff of the department, their relatives and students. It included playing on the national instrument dombra, and performances of folk songs and kyuis. There was also made a mini theatrical presentation of a traditional Kazakh custom “Besikke salu”, going from time immemorial of traditions and rituals, and were performed “Tulik zhyry” songs. “Samalyk” and “Tulik zhyry” songs are the traditional Kazakh chants on Nauryz. In her congratulatory speech addressed to the staff of the department, its Head M.M. Tusupbekova wished everyone all the best, happiness and abundance.
