Interdisciplinary Session as Innovative Method of Teaching
At present, the use of
innovative teaching technologies in modern education is associated with the
search for ways to transform the traditional education into a more productive
one, based on the organization of both independent and collective creative and
research activities of students. One of these innovative teaching methods is an
interdisciplinary session.
Thus, the Department of Emergency Medical Care No. 1 jointly with the Department of Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology and Resuscitation conducted an interdisciplinary session on the topic: “Diagnosis and tactics of treatment of patient with acute exogenous poisoning with venom of cauterizing action (acetic acid)”. During the session were proposed objectives to deepen, generalize, systematize and consolidate the theoretical and practical skills in diagnostics and tactics of treatment of a patient in prehospital and hospital stages.
At the beginning of the interdisciplinary session, A.R. Alpyssova, Head of Department of Emergency Medical Care No. 1 defined the goals and tasks, orientated the students towards high-quality implementation of professional skills and usage of communication skills, and the ability to work in a team.
In the course of the lesson, the students demonstrated the practical skills in diagnostics and emergency therapy under conditions of ambulance service at the level of reception and resuscitation departments of a hospital, as well as the skills in coordinating the actions of personnel of ambulance services and resuscitators, teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
The students were put under conditions close to reality, which helped to identify their strengths and weaknesses in the ability to apply practical skills and to work in a team.
