We are in favour of HIVprevention!

On 2 December 2016 at the Department of Infectious Diseases and Dermatovenerology was held a traditional annual conference dedicated to the World AIDS Day.

  A.A. Kim, the Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Dermatovenerology of KSMU, opened the conference. Antonina Arkadievna welcomed the participants and explained the main objectives and the plan of the conference. The keynote of the conference was her words that HIV could affect regardless of status, sex, age, race, social or professional level of a human life.

  The aim of the conference was to raise awareness about the features of the disease, methods of HIV / AIDS prevention and treatment, promotion of a healthy lifestyle and increase in personal responsibility for one’s health. Within the conference, a great emphasis was made on the necessity to help people to remember about the high cost of mistake due to carelessness, as the health is the most important thing belonging to a person, and a pill for treatment of AIDS for good does not exist.

  B.K. Kultanova, a guest of the conference, an epidemiologist of the Regional Center for Prevention and Control of AIDS, described the epidemiological situation of HIV / AIDS in Karaganda region within 10 months of 2016. According to her, the situation of HIV infection has reached the epidemic proportions.

  The interns of 6-067, 6-068, 7-064 groups of “Internal Diseases” and “General medical practice” took an active part in the conference. In the framework of the event were discussed the general issues of HIV infection: modern views on etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of patients with this disease, opportunistic diseases described in details, the relevant issues of discrimination against people with HIV infection; the state of reproductive health in people with HIV, in particular HIV infection in the elderly. In addition, two interesting clinical cases were presented.

  In conclusion, to the audience were shown two social videos dedicated to people with a serious diagnosis of HIV / AIDS, about their lives changed after the confirmation of diagnosis, the way of living with the awareness of this diagnosis, and living effectively and efficiently.

  Finally, Antonina Arkadievna Kim expressed her gratitude to all participants for the interesting presentations and to the guests for the time given to the students and the staff of the Department.
