On 10 November at KSMU (36 Gogol Street), Department of Oncology held a roundtable meeting on topic “Fight against smoking and lung cancer prevention” within “Денсаулық” program of the Roadmap of activities for a healthy lifestyle. 4 and 5-year students of “General medicine” specialty were invited to the roundtable discussion. 5-year students K. Kuchenkova, M. Bolatova and R. Askhat prepared and showed interesting presentations. They told the audience about the increase in development of lung cancer worldwide; from a rare disease, as considered at the beginning of the current century, the lung cancer turned into one of the most frequent causes of the death of men older than 45 years. The speakers also noted that the experimental, clinical and statistical works of the past years convincingly proved the role of tobacco smoke in development of lung cancer.

In their reports, the students visibly showed the composition of tobacco products, harm of passive smoking. In a friendly atmosphere, the students discussed the relevance of the topic and asked questions. It was nice to hear that all those present gave a negative answer to the question whether they smoke or not. The roundtable meeting was very informative for the students. The participants of the round table meeting concluded that a more active work was to be done in the fight against smoking and for promotion of a healthy lifestyle. There was also discussed the meaning of a healthy lifestyle to a university student.

It was unanimously decided to keep a healthy lifestyle!
