World Contraception Day in KSMU

31 October 2016

26 September is the World Contraception Day, celebrated worldwide every year. The interns of 6-003 group, obstetricians-gynecologists of “General Medicine” specialty, headed by their mentor and assistant of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology R.V. Vorobyova conducted an educational event entitled “Contraception: protection of women's health and not only...” for students of KSMU at the Dormitories No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 on 26-29 September 2016.

Assistant Prof. Regina Vasilievna noted the existing necessity of increasing knowledge on use of contraceptives among young people at the age of 18-25. It is important to provide the necessary information exactly within this age period, because sexual and reproductive behavior in youth may leave a noticeable trace on future life.

The students were provided information on the World Contraception Day. They knew about different types and methods of preventing the unwanted pregnancies and about currently available modern contraceptives. Obstetricians-gynecologists interns of 6003 group told the students about family values, risks and complications after abortion, called young people for taking care of their own reproductive health. After a lecture with presentation, they held a quiz and gave prizes for correct answers to the winners. At the end of the event, the participants were asked to take part in an anonymous survey in order to ascertain the level of knowledge on contraceptives and possible complications of abortion.
