In 2016 within the implementation project of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the RK "The strategic partnership of Kazakhstan medical universities and medical schools foreign" Lund University, Sweden was determined as a strategic partner of KSMU.

Lund University is one of the oldest Universities of Europe (established in 1666). There is about 41000 students studying at 50 educational programs. Lund University holds leading positions in the ranking for the quality of education among international universities. Thus, according to QS rating in 2015 Lund University took 70^th place.

On the 1^st April 2016 during the official visit of delegation from the Republic of Kazakhstan, consisted of vice minister of Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan E.A. Birtanov, vice-rector on scientific work A.A. Turmukhambetova and vice-rector on strategic development and economic and management of KSMU Z.Z. Bekturgano. There was meeting with vice-chancellor of Lund University, during which a memorandum of cooperation between the center of the Middle-Eastern Studies of Lund University and Karaganda State Medical University was signed.

The signing of the memorandum was the starting mechanism for the further development of cooperation between higher education institutions.

Since 18 to 31 July 2016 for the implementation of the strategic partnership project experts from Lund University arrived to Karaganda State Medical University: Mister Hugo Bragioni (Master of Economics, developer of copyright programmes on the statistical accounting) and professor Ronny Berndtsson (professor of Division of water resources). The main purpose of the visit was the realization of the plan of strategic partnership of the University and the desire of experts to meet with the staff and students of the University.

On the first day the experts familiarized with the material and technical base of the University (classrooms and clinical bases of the university, practical skills center), a scientific-research center, a consultative-diagnostic center and dental clinic of KSMU MC. In the following days, the experts set to work to gather information, quantitative and qualitative data for the analytical report on the activities of the University.

Based on the results of the visit a number of assessment activities of the University was held. In particular: a questionnaire for heads of departments of the University was developed; internal university documents (management structure, orders, duty regulations, standing order of the divisions and departments) was studied; the results of the educational and scientific activities were examined; interviews with administrative and managerial staff of the University, the faculty of the university, students of Master and PhD courses were carried out.

There were also discussed the main issues of the Split-PhD programme implementation in previously selected areas - Biomedicine, Biology, Public Health.

In the second block of the technical task “Expert assessment of educational activity on the example of the "Public Health" educational program” held online meeting with Professor Stefan Lindgren of Lund University. Agreed work plan of the expert in the preparatory phase of gathering information and documents, as well as during the visit of KSMU. Currently, work is being conducted on-line.
