Topical conversation
On the 26th September
2014 to implement the proposals of N. A.
Nazarbaev, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan made at the
twenty-first session of the Assembly of Kazakhstan Nations about the further
promotion of the Kazakh tolerance and harmony model, the round-table meeting
was held in our university upon the theme "The language role in interethnic
concord creation". The participants were Vilen Borisovich Molotov-Luchansky (the Vice-Rector
for Academic and Educational Affairs), Temirgaliev Kudaibergen Abaevich (the head of the Department
of History of Kazakhstan and social - political disciplines), E.Zh.Aubakirov,
M.E.Temirbekova, N.A.Mingisheva (teachers) and O. N. Sorokina (senior lecturer
of foreign languages department). Also the representatives of the Students
self-governance Committee, the participants of the university debate club and
the representatives of the Committee for Matters Concerning Young Persons of
Karaganda universities participated in the meeting.
The round table participants discussed this theme. The stormy debate was caused by the discussion of the multilingualism problem in our country. All the meeting participants actively shared their thoughts and opinions on the role of the three major languages of the country: the Kazakh, Russian and English.
Ayan Suleymenov, who is the student of “Bolashak” university, actively argued against three languages usage. The audience was divided into two opinions: the supporters of Ayan’s position and the students who advocated three languages and didn't see any threat of the Kazakh language loss. The participants of the discussion club of our University of Kazakh league "Namys" advocated three languages in the country with strong conviction of the leading role of the Kazakh language. Every native speaker should set himself the task to promote the popularization of the state language.
The students of the university Students self-governance Committee and the students of Karaganda Economic University of Kazakhstan Consumers Association endorsed this view.
The guests from Karaganda State Technical University advanced the view that multilingualism is the requirement of the time for the successful development of Kazakhstan.
At the end of the roundtable the participants agreed that multilingualism is necessary since the knowledge of English opens the way for integration into the world economic community. The Kazakh language is the native language of the titular nation, the Russian language is the language of interethnic communication and the English language is the language of international and business communication. The threat of the native language loss because of multilingualism is unfounded.
The participants of the round-table meeting exchange their views and agreed to hold more meetings on topical issues.
