Visiting Professor from the University Hospital of Freiburg
The Department of Internal Medicine of Karaganda Medical University is hosting a visit of Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, pulmonologist, internist Gebhard Württemberger from the University Hospital of Freiburg. The Professor arrived as part of the exchange of experience with foreign colleagues under the SES program.
During his visit, Professor Gebhard Württemberger delivered a series of lectures on current pulmonology issues (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchial asthma, and interstitial lung disease) to residents in the "Pulmonology (adult, pediatric)" and "Rheumatology (adult, pediatric)" specialties, as well as interns. The training program consists of master classes on the correct technique of auscultation of the respiratory system and spirography.
Gebhard Württemberger spoke with Professor Yelena Laryushina, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, on the characteristics of teaching, as well as innovative and interactive teaching methods at various levels of training. The heads of the educational programs of the residency "Pulmonology (adult, pediatric)" and "Rheumatology (adult, pediatric)", Professors Lyazat Ibrayeva and Assel Alina, together with clinical instructors, provided Professor Gebhard Württemberger with an opportunity to familiarize himself with the specialised departments of the clinical base of the university - "Regional Clinical Hospital". The Professor participated in multidisciplinary consultations on the assessment of complex patients with COPD, bronchial asthma, pneumonia, and interstitial lung diseases, including those with systemic connective tissue diseases. The difficulties of differential interstitial lung diseases, long-term oxygen support, basic and situational bronchodilator therapy, antifibrotic therapy, etc. have been reviewed.
Professor Gebhard Württemberger was pleased with the standard of teaching in the Department of Internal Medicine, as well as the high level of qualification of the faculty members and clinical instructors, the competence of the residents and interns and the level of equipment in the departments.
The residents in "Pulmonology (adult, pediatric)" Andrei Krylov and Diana Zhumagaliyeva were highly helpful in Professor Gebhard Württemberger's interactions with colleagues during his visit.
