Developing clinical communication skills

From June 21 to June 25, 2021, on the Webex platform at the Medical University of Karaganda, for the first time, a distance learning course for teachers in the discipline "Clinical Communication Skills" was held. The training was conducted for teachers of the medical universities of Samey and Karaganda.

Piloting the course included the presentation of innovative approaches to the development of communication skills: teaching a patient-centered approach and the formation of effective compliance, training based on a clinical case, integrating communication skills into clinical disciplines in the form of PBL, holding a forum theater (the teaching staff group of NCJSC “KMU” has intellectual property for the introduction of this method in medical education and are the first to present it in medical education in the CIS countries). The issues of emotional burnout in medicine, medical errors and iatrogenies are discussed. For the first time, the theoretical foundations and models of teaching students motivational interviews for patients with somatic and mental disorders have been developed and presented in detail. This content is focused on senior students of medical universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, young doctors, relevant and necessary in the context of the formation of medical professionalism.

The accumulated experience of the previous specialized department of the Karaganda Medical University was gratefully received by the colleagues of the Department of Medical Education of the Semey Medical University.
