The training for trainers “Psycho-social support for children and adolescents living with HIV”

On the basis of KSMU, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF) from 12 to 15 November 2018 conducted training for trainers on training specialists in social and psychological support for children and adolescents with HIV-positive status for the needs of the country.

The aim of the event is to train national staff of doctors, psychologists and social workers, medical and non-governmental organizations to work with HIV-positive children and adolescents, in accordance with the best international practices and the latest technical updates of UNICEF.

The training was attended by the representatives ofvarious regions of Kazakhstan. During the training, the training participants gained knowledge on the principles of working with HIV-positive children and adolescents, as well as with members of their families, as part of a child-oriented approach. Discussed the basic skills of specialists, ways to improve their qualification were discussed; assessment tools were explored through a child-oriented approach and integrated family support work.

As part of the training, a technical meeting was held with the specialists of the Republican AIDS Center on the development of a methodological guide and a training module with the participation of international experts Magda Conway and Amanda Eli was held.
