A special (psychometric) exam provides psychological diagnostics of awareness of the choice of a profession, stress tolerance and readiness for psycho-emotional stress when studying at a medical university, motivation, and ability to make difficult decisions. To pass the exam does not require preliminary preparation, as it does not test academic knowledge in the field of any subject.

According to the Model Rules for admission to training into educational institutions implementing educational programs of higher and postgraduate education, passing a special exam is mandatory for participation in a grant competition or enrollment on a paid basis for higher education educational programs "General Medicine", "Dentistry", "Nursing" .
