Research internship program at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST)

The Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) provides internships for foreign citizens for a period of 6 months, offers English language courses (to help students get an official result in English for admission to the master's and doctoral programs), Korean language program and training in the field of scientific research.

Requirments:

•The candidate must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree, or is expected to receive it by August 2019.

•The internship provides for the continuation of studies in the Master's and Doctoral programs at the Korean Institute of Science and Technology after finishing the internship (the university has grants).

Internship specialties:

•Division of Biomedical science and technology

•Division of Energy and Environmental technology

•Division of Nano and Information Technology

Application period:

• Accepting applications from January to March 2019, the beginning of the internship in July 2019.

In frame of the internship will be covered:

•Tuition and Registration Fee

•Monthly scholarship for undergraduate students $ 900 and $ 1000 for master’s students.

•Medical insurance

•Accommodation in a hostel $ 120 per month (paid by the student separately)

•English and Korean courses (TOEIC 4 hours, 5 days a week, Korean courses: 2 hours 5 days a week)

Application procedure:

1) Candidates must submit an application and upload the full package of documents in electronic format online at the Institute’s website http://kist_school.kist.re.kr/eAplct/write

2) After passing the competition, candidates must submit to the administration of the Institute original documents in printed format on the first day of the internship.

       3) Candidates can view the list of professors of the Institute on the website:

List of required documents:

For all candidates:

- Application form

- Essay

- Letter of recommendation

- Bachelor's degree diploma or certificate of the expected completion of training

- Transcript of bachelor’s degree in English. 

(if a student is transferred to another university, he must pass all university transcripts received before and after the transfer).

-English language Certificate (if available)

-Copy of the passport

-Certificate of career / employment (if available)

* Students with a master's degree or students in the master's program must provide the following additional documents:

-Master’s degree diploma or certificate of the expected completion of training

-Transcript of master’s degree in English.

(if a student is transferred to another university, he must pass all university transcripts received before and after the transfer).

       - master's thesis (only titles of articles and abstracts should be presented. If, in accordance with university rules or other relevant laws, you have obtained a diploma without the need to write a dissertation, you must provide the necessary documentation).

-Scientific achievements (if available)

(publications, including published articles presented at scientific conferences and patents).

Notes

•After completing the internship, students must have an appropriate level of English to continue their studies at the institute (TOEFL (iBT - 79, CBT - 213, PBT-550), TOEIK (730), TEPS (630), IELTS (6.0)).

•After submitting an application, if changes have occurred in the academic status, such as exclusion or refusal to participate, and the student has not notified the KIST school secretariat about changing his status, the school may cancel or terminate the internship.

•This internship program helps prominent students to gain experience in several specific research areas and laboratories in advance, before they start an academic program. During the internship, if the students cannot find a suitable supervisor until the beginning of the fall semester of 2019, the internship is terminated automatically.

•The KIST School offers English classes and pays for exams up to 3 times to help students get an official result in English when enrolling in graduate and doctoral programs. However, if the interns do not meet the minimum English language proficiency requirements prior to commencing the KIST program semester, the internship is terminated automatically.
