Four universities from Russia and Kazakhstan established an International Consortium

To the international association created at the initiative of Kazan State Medical University named after Kurashov included the North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov (St. Petersburg), Karaganda Medical University (Republic of Kazakhstan) and Semey Medical University (Republic of Kazakhstan).

On February 15, a meeting of the Consortium Council for the implementation of the project «Design and implementation of an integrated educational program» was held. Laysan Mukharyamova, the first Vice-Rector of Kazan State Medical University, Victor Riklefs, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Cooperation of Karaganda Medical University, Zakhar Lopatin, Head of the Educational Department of the North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov made online presentations.

Laysan Mukharyamova said: «this first meeting is the beginning of fruitful joint work. Our consortium will share the best practices of each university and will create a synergistic effect that will help to develop new innovative training programs as efficiently as possible».

In continuation of the speech Laysan Muzipovna told that Kazan State Medical University within the Program of Development of the University and implementation of the program of strategic academic leadership «Priority - 2030» In 2023, began to implement an integrated program for one group of third-year students studying in English.

«Implementation of the program is based on the problem-oriented approach, carried out according to the principles of «early clinical inclusion» and teamwork «living and learning community», when all students included in the project are settled in one hostel, they are given a special room for teamwork outside school hours», - stressed Laysan Mukharyamova.

 During the meeting Viktor Riklefs, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Cooperation of Karaganda Medical University and Zhanargul Smailova, Deputy Chairman of the Board for Academic and Educational Work of Semey Medical University told about the experience of their universities in the development and implementation of integrated educational programs.

In the 2019-2020 academic year, Kazakhstan adopted new standards of medical education, including the implementation of integrated programs. In this program internships and master’s degree were introduced into a single 6-year program of basic training (instead of the existing program «5 (bachelor’s degree) +2 (internship) »). At the end of 6 years, the graduate will be given a diploma of higher education MD/+MSc, which means the award of a master’s degree and qualification of a doctor.

Head of the North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov Zakhar Lopatin devoted his speech to the analysis of the readiness of the Russian system of medical education for the implementation of integrated programs in the mass training of doctors.

The participants of the meeting outlined the plans of work of the consortium, including work on the development of textbooks and teaching materials, the organization of joint conferences, academic mobility of teachers.
