My favorite capital

My favorite capital

07 July 2020

On May 6, 1998, Akmola was renamed to Astana by the Decree of the President of Kazakhstan and on June 10 the new capital of Kazakhstan was introduced to the international community. The day of the capital in Astana is celebrated from the moment the city received its capital status in 1998. Mass transformations have turned our capital into one of the most beautiful cities in Central Asia.

Among the famous modern architectural masterpieces are the building of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and the Northern Lights towers, a business center, Astana Tower, the building of the International Airport.

Together with Kazakhstan architects, foreign experts were actively involved in the construction of the city. The main idea of the new capital - giving the city a Eurasian appearance was taken into account at the stage of development of the architectural plan of the city. Astana (now Nur-Sultan) is a city combining the elements of East and West.

In 1999, UNESCO received to our capital the title of “Cities of the World”. In addition, the city is a free economic zone which contributes to its rapid economic development. Nur - Sultan is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Kazakhstan with magnificent architectural monuments and beautiful parks, the best shops and grandiose skyscrapers.

Nur - Sultan is a city unique in all respects: residents sometimes grumble about the avenues and streets chained to the concrete jungle, and visitors are surprised at the number of green areas and parks. Walking along the streets and avenues, it is impossible to see everything and make out the architectural development of the city. But if you go up to the observation deck, you immediately have an amazing view and each house becomes part of the big picture. It takes one’s breath away and it seems that you can look even beyond the horizon.
