Vivarium

Vivarium

Vivarium is a structural unit of the Research Center of «MUK» NCJSC and subordinates to its director.

The main goal of the vivarium is to provide the research and educational process of «MUK» NCJSC with the laboratory animals.

The history of the vivarium of «MUK» NCJSC dates back to the 1950s, when in the courtyard of the building on Alalykin Street was allocated a small room for animals. At that time, the post of the head of the vivarium was not provided, so the workers took care of the animals.

In the 1970s, at the time of opening of the Central Research Laboratory (CRL) on 40 Gogol Street, the vivarium received a new building at its disposal.

Since September 2011, after major repairs, the vivarium has significantly changed. Currently there are 2 zones:

1.  Administrative

2.  Main: for keeping of laboratory animals, with provided sections for rats, mice, rabbits and amphibians (frogs).

There are also experimental sections and an operating room.

Educational and research process

Annually more than thousand rats and more than three hundred mice are bred in our division, fully providing the educational and research process with the laboratory animals.
